Nasdaq listed porn firm AIMs for UK

Posted by WSF On January - 29 - 2007

PrivateMedia-001Another U.S. listed firm is abandoning these shores for listing a-broad: Private Media Group, one of Europe’s biggest purveyors of porn that is currently listed on Nasdaq, is moving its listing to the London Stock Exchange’s Alternative investment Market (AIM) by this summer:

The company’s president, chairman and chief executive, Berth Milton Jnr, said it was also switching exchanges because it was "extremely unhappy with the treatment small cap companies get from the US market and US regulatory bodies". Mr Milton added that moving "seems like a good idea and also a way of saving money".

Private Media was founded in Sweden in 1965 when Berth Milton Snr, Mr Milton’s father, began publishing Private magazine, widely considered to be the world’s first legal hardcore title.

Mr Milton bought out his father in 1991 and began expanding the business into new areas, including videos and then DVDs. He licensed the company’s name for a variety of products, including condoms, and set up websites.

GirlsGoneWIld-0015

"Girls Gone Wild" producer Joe Francis was sentenced yesterday to community service and a $1.6 million fine for using underage girls in his videos and failing to label DVD’s and videows per federal law.  He had copped a plea in September.  However, that plea didn’t include community service in the bargain.:

The company, Mantra Films Inc., also agreed to pay $1.6 million in fines for using drunken 17-year-olds in videos it filmed on Panama City Beach during spring break and for failing to properly label its DVDs and videos as required by federal law.

Judge John Richard Smoak Jr. of Federal District Court told the company founder, Joe Francis, that he added the community service because it did not appear a fine would be a meaningful punishment.

The fine represents less than 3 percent of Mantra films’ profits since 2002 and only 12 percent of Mantra’s 2005 profits, Judge Smoak said. Mr. Francis makes an estimated $40 million a year.

The judge ordered Mr. Francis, his company president, general counsel and chief financial officer each to perform eight hours of community service monthly for the next 30 months. But Judge Smoak gave Mr. Francis the option of serving 16 hours a month of community service by himself in place of the corporate officers.

Seagate CEO admits to helping people “watch porn”

Posted by WSF On December - 1 - 2006

Seagatedrivejennajameson001Since we just bought a 500 gigabyte Seagate drive, we had to laugh when we saw this:

Sitting at the arm of a tech CEO during a corporate dinner is rarely as interesting as you might imagine. Usually, the CEO stays on message throughout the meal as a PR flak hovers, smiles, nods and prods the conversation along. Just keep the drinks coming, guys.

Not so with Bill Watkins, the mercurial, salty-mouthed Texan who runs the $15 billion hard-drive king Seagate Technology. At a San Francisco dinner on Tuesday evening, he was candid about his company’s ultimate mission: "Let’s face it, we’re not changing the world. We’re building a product that helps people buy more crap – and watch porn."

‘Girls Gone Wild’ pimp cops a plea

Posted by WSF On September - 13 - 2006

Joefrancis002Soft pörn king Joe Francis, famous for his boob baring "Girls Gone Wild" films has settled charges that he used underaged girls in his videos.  He’ll stay out of jail, but pays $2.1 million in fines and has to make sure that the babes used in his vids are of legal age:

THE "Girls Gone Wild" video empire got spanked by federal prosecutors yesterday for failing to make sure all their amateur pörn queens were at least 18. Joe Francis and his companies, Mantra Films and MRA Holdings, pleaded guilty in a Florida court yesterday for neglecting to record the names and ages of the often-drunk college girls who bared their boobs for the series in 2002 and 2003. He’ll pay $2.1 million in fines and must also hire an independent monitor to ensure future tapings feature bona fide adults. For his plea, Francis avoids prison and the federal charges against him will be dismissed in three years if he keeps his nose clean. His lawyer Aaron Dyer told us: "All this boils down to is a few record-keeping violations from 2002 and 2003, and two girls who lied about their ages and presented false ID. We’re glad this is behind us." Meanwhile, Francis is busy touting his latest flesh epic, "Girls Gone Wild – Ultimate Rush," which promises "hot naked girls and wild non-stop action!"

Wharton professor arrested again over kiddie sex charge

Posted by WSF On August - 29 - 2006

Scottwardlscottwardwharton001

L. Scott Ward, 63, a professor emeritus at Wharton, has been arrested for the third time for an alleged child sex crime.  He was nabbed at Dulles International Airport at a security check point as he flew in from Brazil. Ward became the focus of federal agents because of "his unusual number of trips to Thailand, a destination for people seeking sex with minors" (and where creepy JonBenet confessor Jon Mark Karr was arrested).

According to the Philadelphia Daily News, last night Wharton spokesman Peter Winicov said the school had no official comment and he doubted "there will be any tonight… if ever."

We dug up this pervy prof’s faculty listing from the Wharton site, which you can see below.

RobertmjohnsonformernewsdaypublisherpervPERVERT ALERT!: Newsday is out in front of the story that its 60 year old former publisher, Robert M. Johnson, has pleaded guilty to charges that he possessed child pornography and destroyed computer records that were the subject of a federal investigation.  Johnson left Newsday in 1994 after twelve years with the paper.  He was CEO with Bowne from 1994 until May 2004 and left for "personal reasons". In his guilty plea Johnson said that he "knowingly possessed sexually explicit photographs of children on a computer owned" by Bowne."

Sentencing is scheduled for October 27 where Johnson could get up to 10 years in prison for the possession of child porn charge, and up to 20 years for the destruction of documents charge.

Sexysilhouette003_1So many Wall Streeters these days are film maker wannabes.  Accused insider trader and ex-Goldman employee Eugene Plotkin was one of them, with his never released 2003 movie "One Way" which he wrote, produced, directed and starred in.

Here we have a couple of investment bankers who have started their own film company; they’re looking for actresses and are offering "great pay per scene".

PS — they’re clearly NOT looking for the next Meryl Streep.  (Mer’ll Strip might be more like it…)

Memo to filmmakers:  The domain GoldmanSeXXX.com is still available.  ;)
