OMG! This is priceless.  Here’s a  video gem excerpt of SAC Capital’s Steven Cohen — with a full head of hair — and his wife Alex, a month into their marriage, as they appeared on the talk show “Christina” in a 1992 segment entitled “He Acts Like Her Husband, Too”.  They discussed how he was still involved with his ex-wife  Patricia (and apparently still sleeping with her some of the time, though that’s not included in the video excerpt).   Sex with the  former Mrs. Cohen ended after he and Alex got engaged.  During his marriage to Patricia, Cohen admitted there were some “financial difficulties”.   Cohen starting SAC Capital in 1992 — the same year as the below footage.   Now his  ex is suing him for guzillions and alleging that he engaged in insider trading.

Credit Suisse CEO Brady Dougan thought he only owed 12 days of interest, but no such luck. He owes interest estimated at $970K all the way back from the date of the divorce agreement….

Dougan, 49, and Tomoko Hamada Dougan, 52, were divorced on June 17, 2005, under an agreement requiring him to pay $7.83 million within 30 days and another $7.5 million by June 16, 2006, according to an opinion released by the appellate panel yesterday in Hartford. Dougan made the second payment 12 days late, triggering a 10 percent interest payment provision.

The dispute was over what period the interest should cover. Dougan paid $24,999.96 in interest, covering the 12 days he was late. In a 2-1 opinion, the court said he owed interest dating to the time of the divorce agreement, covering another year. The court reversed a ruling by the trial judge, who found the interest provision was unenforceable even though the parties had negotiated and agreed to it.

Dougan “had use of $7.5 million for one year,” according to the majority opinion by Judge C. Ian McLachlan. The bank CEO “could have made that payment at the time of the judgment. Instead, the plaintiff, an investment banker, had the use of the money with the knowledge that he would lose the benefit of no interest for that year if he failed to pay the defendant on time.”

Chrysler’s nonTARP lenders have made their move to block the Obama administration’s restructuring that did an end run around their senior position in the capital structure.  A bankruptcy judge will hear the case on Tuesday.  And reminiscent of AIG, some of the creditors have apparently received death threats according to their lawyer Tom Lauria.  According to the Financial Times: Read the rest of this entry »

This one comes from a Connecticut state judge in a lawsuit filed by the town of Fairfield, CT which lost around $15 million principal in the feeder funds.  It's a temporary freeze order, pending an April 13 hearing. Separately, a NY appeals court refused to overturn an existing freeze of Peter Madoff's assets.

Jim Simons, Renaissance TechnologiesThe Wall Street Journal highlights Renaissance Technologies' Jim Simons' connection to mega-Ponzi schemer Bernie Madoff.  Seems that he was involved in getting Stony Brook University's foundation to invest $500K in 1991, and two of his family foundation invested "a small part of their portfolios" with him in 1995.  But Simons got suspicious as to how Bernie made money, and pulled out in 2003.  And Stony Brook pulled $3.5 million of its then $8 million position in 2004 — Simons wanted them to pull it all — but others on the board disagreed. When the shit hit the fan and Bernie fessed up to his fraud, Stony Brook disclosed that it lost $5.5 million, although it had apparently pulled out $8.7 million over the years on a $2.7 million investment.

Sounds like both Simons' family foundation and Stony Brook Foundation are some of those at risk who might have to pony up those phantom profits that they got out…..

We suspect that this won't be the first clawback case like this:  Steven Simkin, a partner with law firm Paul, Weiss, amicably split with his wife in 2006.  Part of the settlement included $2.7 million for his share of an investment with….Bernie Madoff.   Now that the investment is worthless and based on a fraud, Simkin wants his money back and he's sued his ex, Laura Blank.  Naturally Laura is having none of it.  She says it's his problem.  Now a judge will decide.  Per the NY Post:

MaximiliaCordero-004After all of the embarrassing publicity engendered by transgendered
"model" Maximilia Ava Cordero's lawsuit against now imprisoned billionaire perv Jeffrey
Epstein, it's been tossed according to the NY Post.

Although the charges were embarrassing, it was important to Epstein to fight the "phony allegations" rather than settling, said his lawyer, Gerald Lefcourt.

"If you don't fight it, they linger and people think they are possibly true," he said.

International Risk Analytics’ Chris Whalen was being interviewed by Fox Business over Wells Fargo trumping Citigroup’s deal to buy the banking operations of Wachovia, and Citi’s response.  They were in a heated discussion, with Alexis Glick arguing that Citigroup claims it had an exclusive contract to buy Wachovia’s banking operations and that Citi was already providing Wachovia with liquidity.  Whalen argued that basically the FDIC can do whatever they want – that if a Wells Fargo deal is in the best interests of the FDIC, that any exclusivity contract essentially doesn’t matter if the FDIC doesn’t want to play ball — that the they can intervene and put the Wachovia subsidiaries into receivership.  He argued that by law the FDIC’s authority is absolute and that there is no appeal.  Any lawsuit would be against the Wachovia parent, which essentially wouldn’t have any assets.  Ms. Glick kept arguing and interrupting.  Then *CLICK*  and Whalen was gone.
