George Soros will be so disappointed: Obama says that legaizing pot won’t help grow us out of the recession
In a town hall meeting today, Barack Obama responded to questions from the internet. One of the most popular questions asked: whether legalization of marijuana would help the country recover from the recession.
“I don’t think that is a good strategy to grow our economy,” he said.
We say pfffffft. And we imagine George Soros does too.

Credit crunch impact: Stressed out Wall Streeters seek solace in drink, drugs and risky sex
Tucked away in a mini-pullout section of the NY Post is an article on how anxious current and laid off Wall Streeters have become over the credit crunch and state of the industry. "Substance abuse and risky sex behavior is up among downsized and worried Wall Streeters, say therapists".

Mile high club in the mile high city not considered “arms length”: Department of the Interior probe nets Sex, Drugs & Oil scandal
Whooping it up in Denver: No, we’re not referring to the recent Democratic
Convention. As it turns out, a September 10 report from the Inspector General accuses employees
of the Denver Minerals Management Service arm of the Interior Dept of all
sorts of forbidden non-arms length naughtiness, including sex (with oil company employees from Chevron and
Royal Dutch Shell), drugs (cocaine and marijuana), and accepting forbidden gifts
from four oil companies….
Soros pushing Mass. decriminalization of pot
Just call him the pusher: Thanks to billionaire hedge fund manager George
Soros, the good people of Massachusetts can look forward to voting on whether or
not possession of a small amount of marijuana will be decriminalzed in the
state. Soros put up $400k of the $429k that was collected by the group who
championed the measure — $315k alone was needed to gather the necessary 100k
signatures required to get the measure on the ballot. If the Soros backed
measure passes in November, possession of less than an ounce of the evil weed
would be a civil offense which would be punishable with a fine of $100.
And it's not the first time that Soros has gone to bat for pot….

RIP: LSD inventor dies at 102
What a long strange trip….
Albert Hofmann, the pioneering Swiss
chemist and advocate of psychedelics who discovered the hallucinogenic
properties of LSD, died Tuesday. He was 102.
Hofmann reportedly died of a heart attack at his home in Basel, Switzerland.
Hofmann’s most famous discovery happened on April 16, 1943. He was researching
the synthesis of a lysergic acid compound, LSD-25, when he inadvertently
absorbed a bit through his fingertips. Intrigued by the effect it had on his
perception, Hofmann decided further exploration was warranted. Three days later,
on April 19, he ingested 250 milligrams of LSD, embarking on the first
full-fledged acid trip. That day became known among LSD fans as "bicycle
day" because Hofmann began experiencing the drug’s intense effects on his
bicycle trip home from the lab.

Out of his “Comfort Zone”: Hot shot Canadian hedge fund manager is arrested in a bar room cocaine sting
Fucked on Saint Paddy’s day: They say that Matthew MacIsaac, a 32 year old hot shot Toronto hedge fund manager with MM Asset Management, who reportedly pulls down $3 million plus, tried to buy some cocaine for a woman late Saint Paddy’s day night at an after hours club called the "Comfort Zone". The trouble was, said woman was an under cover cop. So he was busted and charged with conspiracy to traffic cocaine. He had $600 in his pocket and when the cops questioned him about why so much (although really, by NY hedge fund standards that’s not that much of a bank roll), he gave, perhaps unintentionally, what’s become the classic bar brag — by even those who aren’t in the business– "I’m a hedge fund manager".
We understand that Matt has a birthday coming up on April 12. So might we suggest the gift at the left? A "Fuck Me, I’m a Hedge Fund Manager" T-Shirt….

Cocaine business: The euro becomes a money laundering favorite
Marijuana: Weak dollar said to hurt those who partake
Another victim of the weak dollar: Page Six helpfully points out that with most marijuana being imported those who partake are being forced to pay 25% more for the good stuff. Unless you’re rich (like Bear Stearns CEO Jimmy Cayne), that’s gotta hurt…..
"Most of the high-end marijuana sold here comes from Canada," our source in the herbal world reports. "With the Canadian dollar becoming more valuable against the US dollar, the dealers have had to raise prices about 25 percent." The commercial-grade weed comes from Mexico, and the peso hasn’t moved as much. "But Canada has the real high-quality hydroponic stuff," said our stoner source, who is feeling the pinch.

Check mate: Wall Street trader’s $100K ‘no drugs, strippers, hookers’ “promise” to ex-girlfriend bites him in the wallet
Greg Calvino, a 45 year old trader formerly with RBC (and now with Thomas Weisel) is fighting with his ex-girlfriend, Elisa Kwon, in court over a $100,000 check he wrote to her early in their relationship that she cashed because she says he broke a no drugs, strippers and hookers promise that he made to her. She says that he agreed that she could cash the check if he misbehaved. He filed suit in July alleging extortion, looking to get his money back along with interest and damages. He claims to have written the large check to protect his career and reputation, and that she cashed it for no reason. But according to Kwon there are instant messages where Calvino admitted to going to Flashdancers and he failed a drugstore drug test showing that he partook of the white stuff:

Enter the drugs and the hookers: New backdating allegations against Broadcom’s ex-CEO
The backdating scandal has gotten really, really boring of late, with most companies that have had any involvement either getting absolved or little regulatory wrist slaps. It’s almost been relegated to a nonevent even for companies that still have backdating charges lurking in the background. This morning, a Wall Street Journal report on Broadcom’s option probe and new allegations against the company’s co-founder and former chief executive, Henry T. Nicholas III, has just made the scandal a lot more fun to watch:
The allegations surfaced in a civil lawsuit filed earlier this year by Kenji Kato, a former personal assistant and bodyguard to Mr. Nicholas. Mr. Kato, who claims he worked for Mr. Nicholas on and off from 1999 to 2006, alleges in a case filed in Los Angeles Superior Court that he was forced to indulge in illegal narcotics with his boss, whom he portrays as leading a raucous lifestyle that included spiking clients’ drinks and offering prostitutes to customers.
An attorney for Mr. Nicholas strongly denies the allegations and says Mr. Kato is a troubled former contract worker who fabricated the events to extort money from the admittedly high-living technology executive. Mr. Nicholas resigned from Broadcom four years ago.

Low Blow: Keith Richards puts dead dad’s ashes up his nose
Rolling Stone Keith Richards latest confession is too hilariously bizarre to ignore:
The 63-year-old guitarist made the shocking confession, enough to make a dead man cry, in the latest edition of British music magazine NME.
"The strangest thing I’ve tried to snort? My father. I snorted my father," Richards says in a feature about his impact on rock that hits stands Friday.
"He was cremated and I couldn’t resist grinding him up with a little bit of blow. It went pretty well, and I’m still alive."

Nevada pot measure a bust
Reefer sadness: Another casualty of yesterday’s election was a ballot measure in Nevada that would have legalized the possession of up to to one ounce pot. It lost in a 56 to 44 percent vote. Also up in smoke, a similar measure in Colorado.

Viva Las Vegas!: All dilated eyes will be on Nevada come election day when ballot question 7, which would legalize another vice — the purchase and possession of up to one ounce of marijuana for those 21 and older — is up for vote.
