We noted that he was mentioned in a 2006 Hamptons Magazine “Black Book” profile as one of their list of eligible Hamptons singles.  Today Josh Birnbaum, formerly of Goldman Sachs, testified before the Senate Subcommittee in their Goldman Sachs mortgage market meltdown probe.  Here’s his opening statement:

Pity the poor put upon young, fashionable, upwardly mobile women who have landed rich — or those they thought would soon be rich — Wall Streeters as boyfriends or husbands, only to find that their meal tickets were now on budgets and maybe even unemployed.  There's a new place for them to bitch, whine and compare notes — Dating A Banker Anonymous. It's getting tough all over the city for pretty young gold diggers, used to enjoying the finer things of life thanks to wealthy Wall Streeters who lavished them with all sorts of luxuries.  Now many of the men have found themselves unemployed, and forced to radically tighten their belts given their new situations in life.  So how are they taking the suddenly shrinking supply of wealthy men?  This weekend's Page Six Magazine explores the subject:

Paging Captain Steubing: An Asian love boat filled with wealthy and lonely Chinese men worth a minimum of two million yuan (£133,000) and "good-looking and desirable" women (some of them millionaires themselves) will sail off on November 25 on a matchmaking trip out of Shanghai China.  Over 20 men have signed up so far, with half worth more than 200 million yuan.

According to Mr Xu [Tianli, the trip's organizer], the kind of men hoping to take part in the cruise will be those who wish to find wives, but whose careers in China’s cut-throat, capitalist economy have tended to leave them little time to devote to romance.

If you want a hefty serving of eye candy for lunch along with that healthy salad, you might try "Just Salad", a new salad bar opened in May at 51st Street and Park by former hedge fund guy Nick Kenner, 25 and his partner Rob Crespi, 24.

“We wanted to open a lunch place for the young, hipper crowd that I saw in midtown,” says Kenner, who worked at a hedge fund for two years before quitting to become an arugula entrepreneur. Their spot has taken off since it opened in May. “There are always attractive girls and guys my age there,” says Michele Waldman, a 25-year-old regular. “And Nick and Rob are so cute and flirt with all the girls in line—it’s great,” she says. And, of course, there are also those healthy salads. “Cute guys plus carb-free dressing? I’m so in,” she adds. With the women hooked, other guys follow. We stopped by on a recent Wednesday.
