Guilty plea for $125K extortion attempt: We always find it amazing when a prominent executive gets stupidly caught with his pants down. This time, according to the salacious details found on TheSmokingGun, a senior executive of an unnamed New York Fortune 500 company — a Connecticut resident, married and the father of three kids — met 22 year old Jessica Wolcott through Craigslist. (Originally TheSmokingGun said he was CEO of the company but later changed that to "senior executive", so he may or may not be a CEO.) He gave her thousands of dollars to pay off some of her debts, and ultimately, the woman sent him emails (on what she thought was an untraceable internet connection she hopped on using a wireless laptop while at a Starbucks) instructing him to pay her more money or she’d expose his extramarital affairs to his company and wife. He had sent her emails apparently from his company’s email system (will they NEVER learn???), so she knew where he worked, where he lived and other details of his life. Per TheSmokingGun, "according to an FBI agent, the New York executive acknowledged that on "multiple occasions" he trolled for women on Craigslist and a second site "devoted to bringing together attractive women and wealthy men who were seeking romantic relationships." Last week Ms. Wolcott pleaded guilty to the $125K extortion attempt. The legal complaint is a fascinating read, which you can find at the below link.
