Amazon.com entering the U.S. wine business

Amazon.com, one of our favorite shopping sites, is about to become a purveyor of U.S. wines…. 

Amazon, the world’s largest online
  retailer, is to start selling wine in the US, entering a business fraught with
  regulatory complexities and littered with the wreckage of previous failures.
 
  Amazon is looking to recruit a senior wine buyer, whom it says will be
  responsible for “the acquisition of a massive new product selection” for
  its site. The wine sales will augment a rapidly expanding non-perishable
  groceries business that Amazon launched two years ago.

Amazon dumps on disappointing guidance

Amazon reported impressive 3rd quarter numbers and raised guidance for the full year, but not as much as some analysts expected.  As a result, the stock, which closed the regular trading session at $100.82 dumped all the way down to $90 when extended trading ended.  The chart above shows the regular trading and after hours action…..

Why is Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos smiling?  Because after unexpectedly stellar earnings last night that pretty much blew everyone away, AMZN soared today, closing at $86.18, up $16.93.
