So much for happy endings. At least so far. The deal that Ed
McMahon made to sell his house has collapsed, with the buyer pulling out.
Turns out that the guy who outbid Donald Trump never ponied up any cash for escrow. So The Donald may be
stepping back in. Or not…
So that leaves Ed with no place to live if the house does go into foreclosure … which again leads to the doorstep of Donald Trump. Trump has said he’d step in again and buy the house and lease it back to Ed for life. Our sources say Donald has offered a low ball offer already, but that’s it.
We’re told Trump has had discussions with Ed’s realtor, Alex Davis, since the deal fell apart last Thursday. Will Donald save the day or is this a publicity stunt? We know the stumbling block with Trump is price — he hasn’t offered what Ed wants/needs to get the monkeys off his back.
Ed McMahon’s Home for Sale … Again

There’s a happy ending for former Johnny Carson sidekick and Star Search host Ed McMahon, who has for months been facing foreclosure of his Beverly Hills home. He had defaulted on his $4.8 million loan from Countrywide, and has been unable to work because of a neck injury he sustained 18 months ago. Donald Trump is buying the property and will become his landlord, leasing it back to McMahon. And no doubt McMahon will now be worked into an upcoming episode of "The Apprentice".
"I don’t know the man, but I grew
up watching him on TV," Trump said in an exclusive interview with The
Times.Trump said he stepped in because
helping McMahon "would be an honor." His plan is to buy the home from
the lender and lease it back to McMahon."When I was at the Wharton
School of Business," Trump said, "I’d watch him every night. How could
this happen?"

Calling all publicity hungry hedge funders / traders: Wall Street Warriors, the series shown on HDTV network MOJO-HD wants you. (That’s the show that chronicled publicity ho & bar mitzvah money hedge fund wannabe / flame out Timmy Sykes, among others). It seems that now that we’re in a credit crunch no one wants to be filmed — they’re having trouble rounding up warm bodies to fill up the screen for next season’s. They had an open casting call on Tuesday, but we bet if you really, really want to be on the show, the producers would still be happy to talk to you….

The Wall Street Journal interviewed Fox Business Network boss Roger Ailes. The new network debuts on October 15. He was asked a whole range of questions, from what the new network will look like, how they’ll counter CNBC’s huge 90 million home advantage and who from CNBC he might like to hire. On the latter, he says that CNBC is overworking Erin Burnett…and at the rate they’re going, she’s gonna age. At least he hopes so, cuz when she says "I need water", sounds like he’ll be ready…..
WSJ: The Fox Business Network launches on Oct. 15 after two years of speculation and, to use your word, "disinformation." I want to know what will viewers see.
Mr. Ailes: So do I. We’re working on it… . We think economic news is probably broader than what CNBC has been presenting. We intend to cover the markets and cover Wall Street as effectively as they do, maybe more, and add additional value. Beyond that, there’s no sense in me talking about it because this is a launch, and it’s a competitive launch….I will call a lot of audibles at the line once the play starts. I will not stand around the sidelines with a gamebook and a set of plays that I’ll stick to. I’ll change many things in the first year, I’m sure.

Is Rupert Murdoch going all Pollyanna on us? No financial schadenfreude at the new Fox Business Network? He compared and contrasted his new channel to CNBC at a recent Goldman Sachs investor conference and frankly, it sounds pretty bland and boring:
Rupert Murdoch, chief executive of the
media conglomerate News Corp., said Tuesday that a business news channel being
launched by Fox next month would be less confrontational and more
consumer-focused than its rival CNBC."CNBC is a financial channel for Wall
Street," Mr. Murdoch told an investor conference in New York sponsored by
Goldman Sachs. "We’re for Main Street.""They dwell too much on failures or
scandals," Mr. Murdoch said. "We want to put a lot on innovations and
successes, people who are making money."

Can Mark Cuban dance? We’re all gonna find out on this season’s "Dancing With the Stars". The latest cast was announced yesterday and it included the always outspoken billionaire / Dallas Mavericks owner, even after his having undergone recent hip replacement surgery. Rumor has it he taught disco dancing in college though, so maybe he really can dance. According to the Dallas Morning News:
He’s our first billionaire!" is how
the show’s host, Tom Bergeron, preferred to put it.Hey, Tom: Don’t be fooled by the hip
replacement. Cuban isn’t simply Warren Buffett with an attitude. You TV types have no idea what you’ve
gotten yourself into this time. On American Idol, they occasionally toss Simon
Cowell a no-talent schlub he can eviscerate, just to keep his teeth sharp. If that’s what they intended in Cuban’s
case, they need to know that the intended sacrifice will bite back.

What do billionaire Wall Street BSDs blow their ill-gotten gains on? VH-1 aims to tell you, if you don’t already know. Over the weekend we saw a promo for an upcoming VH-1 show: "The Fabulous Life: Billion Dollar Wall Street Ballers". It’ll air on Thursday at 11am EDT and again that night at 9PM EDT with additional reruns on the VH-1 schedule. According to VH-1’s teaser/promo, the show features ESL / Sears’ Eddie Lampert, and naturally SAC Capital’s Steve Cohen. It also mentions the millions raised by the Robin Hood Foundation, so we’d guess that Paul Tudor Jones is probably in there too. Surprisingly also featured are accused perv / billionaire Jeffrey Epstein as well as besieged-by-subprime-debt John Devaney (Maybe parting with his "Positive Carry" yacht might not be such a big deal after all — VH-1 says he has 10!).
Think stars are having all of the fun?
Think again. These days nobody’s making more and spending more than the
buttoned-down badasses of Wall Street. From their sprawling estates and
tricked-out private yachts to exotic vacation homes and multi-million dollar art
collections– these guys are living larger than anyone else on the planet.
Welcome to The Fabulous Life of Billion Dollar Wall Street Ballers.

Carly Fiorina’s gonna be on "60 Minutes" this Sunday, and according to the writeup in USA Today, she’s "shocked" by the HP pretexting scandal.
[Ms. Fiorina], who ran HP from 1999 to early 2005, tells 60 Minutes that she is stunned by "the depth and range of some of the (spying tactics HP used) … and shocked to hear that I might have been the subject of them."
The interview, which airs Sunday, is tied to next week’s release of Fiorina’s book, Tough Choices. The New York Times was able to buy a copy in advance and published the excerpts cited here.
Addendum: CNBC is reporting that Pattie Dunn is also appearing on "60 Minutes" this Sunday.
