We’re rolling our eyes and simultaneously gagging: Bernie Madoff’s lawyer, Ike Sorkin, has filed a letter to the judge asking for leniency and less than a life sentence. Apparently Bernie is feeling lots of remorse and shame now, and he’ll even talk about it at his 6/29 sentencing hearing.

Ummmm…too little, too late, Bernie.  But the pitiful and transparent plea for mercy was inevitable.

According to CNBC, the letter also contained the following heart tugging statement:

“Thankfully, none of the fury expressed in the victims’ statements has been as shocking as the death threats and anti-Semitic emails that have been directed toward Mr. Madoff and his counsel.”

*Yawn*
